Deep Sea Fishermen’s Union Merit Scholarship
The Deep Sea Fishermen’s Union funds merit scholarships to support university, technical college, and other post-secondary education. The scholarship fund has been established to assist the further education of members in good standing, as well as their children, and grandchildren. Scholarships valued at $4,000 per year are awarded every year. Previous applicants and recipients are eligible to reapply each year of their college education. Scholarship awards will be made after successful completion of the first term. All funds will be directly deposited to the institution which the scholarship recipient attends. The scholarship committee will present applications to the general union membership and the recipients will be selected based on academic qualifications, extra curricular activities, and career goals. Special attention will be paid to candidates that demonstrate legitimate involvement and/or interest in fixed-gear fisheries.
The application period for the next scholarships will begin January 1, 2025. Applications must be received by March 31, 2025.
